Position Summary

The Men's Group Program Worker coordinates and supports Niitoiyis' group-based family violence prevention and wellness programming for Indigenous men, delivered through the Honouring the Journey: From Shadows to Strength program at the Family Wellness Centre. The role maintains the weekly Men's Healing Circle and organizes additional education sessions, Elder and Knowledge Keeper teachings, and participant-informed cultural, land-based and community activities.

The worker plans each activity, keeps spending within the approved budget, supports safe participation, and maintains complete program and evaluation records. This is a part-time, fixed-term position dependent on grant funding (18.75 hours per week over 2.5 days) for a two-year term subject to the executed grant agreement, reporting to the Team Lead, Family Wellness Centre.

This position does not deliver the separately funded one-on-one family violence prevention service; participants who need individual support are referred through the appropriate Niitoiyis program.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and facilitate or support the weekly Men's Healing Circle in line with Niitoiyis' cultural protocols, group agreements, confidentiality requirements and trauma-informed practice
  • Prepare a rolling three-month program plan and detailed monthly schedules for circles, education sessions, cultural teachings and activities
  • Select session topics using participant requests, monthly surveys, facilitator observations and Elder guidance, and prepare a clear plan for each session
  • Coordinate Elders, Knowledge Keepers, facilitators and guest educators, confirming roles, schedules, honoraria, materials and transportation
  • Plan meals and refreshments within the food budget, arrange purchasing, set-up, serving and clean-up, and submit itemized receipts
  • Organize participant-informed cultural, land-based, educational and community activities within budget, with cost estimates, bookings, and consent and safety documentation
  • Welcome participants, explain program expectations and confidentiality limits, and maintain accurate registration and attendance records
  • Refer requests for individual family violence support, counselling or crisis assistance to the appropriate Niitoiyis staff member or community service
  • Administer a brief monthly participant survey and use the feedback to improve topics, facilitators and activities
  • Track program statistics and prepare complete, accurate monthly statistical and activity reports on time
  • Work within approved budgets, maintain spending records, and follow Niitoiyis' financial, purchasing and privacy policies
  • Work respectfully with participants, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, staff and community partners, seeking cultural guidance when planning teachings and ceremonies
  • Follow emergency, incident-reporting, duty-to-report, occupational health and safety, and confidentiality procedures

Qualifications & Skills

  • Diploma or degree in social work, human services, Indigenous studies, community development or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • At least two years of experience coordinating or facilitating group-based community, wellness or family violence prevention programming
  • Demonstrated experience working respectfully with Indigenous men, Elders, Knowledge Keepers and culturally specific community programs
  • Knowledge of family violence prevention, healthy relationships, trauma-informed practice, cultural safety, confidentiality and appropriate referral boundaries
  • Ability to plan group sessions, meals and events, prepare basic budgets, organize logistics and meet reporting deadlines
  • Ability to collect accurate statistics, administer surveys, and use standard email, word-processing and spreadsheet programs
  • Strong communication, organization, judgement and conflict-management skills

Assets

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain it within an assigned period
  • A valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation (some activities occur outside the Family Wellness Centre)

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of all background and screening requirements established by Niitoiyis
  • Ability to work in a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive environment
  • Regular schedule must include the weekly Wednesday men's circle; occasional evening or weekend work and local travel may be required

Time Commitment

Part-time, fixed-term: 18.75 hours per week, normally scheduled over 2.5 days, for a two-year term subject to the executed grant agreement. The regular schedule must include the weekly Wednesday men's circle, with occasional evening or weekend activities.
