For Your Safety
Safety Planning
Safety planning means thinking through steps in advance that can help keep you safe — whether you are ready to leave or not yet. Your Wellness Worker can help you make a personalized plan over the phone.
If You Are Still at Home
- Identify safe rooms with exits and no weapons nearby
- Plan an escape route from each room
- Choose a code word with children or trusted friends to signal danger
- Pack a discreet bag with essentials in case you need to leave quickly
- Memorize emergency contacts in case you cannot access your phone
- Keep a charged phone available if possible
If You Are Ready to Leave
- Contact our crisis line before you leave if it is safe to do so
- Take essential documents and medications if accessible
- Go directly to a safe place — a friend’s home, family, or our shelter
- Do not return to collect items — your safety comes first
- Consider safety when using your phone — calls and texts can be tracked
- Tell someone trustworthy where you are going
If You Can
What to Bring (If Possible)
This is a guide — not a requirement. If you can only bring yourself and your children, that is enough. We have supplies and can help you access what you need.

- Government ID (yours and children’s)
- Health cards and Care Cards
- Birth certificates
- Immigration documents or status cards
- Passports
Health & Safety
- Prescription medications (2-week supply if possible)
- Glasses, hearing aids, medical devices
- Children’s vaccination records

- Children’s comfort items (toys, blanket)
- Phone and charger
- Important photographs
- Cash or bank card if accessible
We have clothing, toiletries, children’s supplies, and a safe home for you. Nothing on this list is required to come in.
